Coach Nesmmnesmith1ith is entering his 8th year as head coach at Paint Branch. He also is the Defensive Coordinator and OLB Coach.

He began his coaching career in 1993 as Head Coach of the Seneca Sports Association Pee-Wee team and lead them to a record of 4-4. He coached at Seneca Valley High School from 1994-2001. During his time at Seneca Valley his roles included coaching Varsity Inside Linebackers, Passing Game Assistant, JV Defensive Coordinator, JV Head Coach, Varsity Defensive Backs, and Varsity Offensive Coordinator.  During Seneca Valley won 4 state championships, had three consecutive undefeated seasons and finished number one in the Washington-metro area.  The three seasons that Seneca Valley did not win the state championship, they lost in the semi-finals of the playoffs to the eventual state champion.  Coach Nesmith says, “It was my 12 seasons at Seneca Valley as both player and coach that taught me what it takes to be a champion…the level of commitment, hard work, and sacrifice it entails.”

From 2002-2006, Coach Nesmith coached at Quince Orchard High School where he served as Varsity Defensive Coordinator, coaching the outside linebackers and in 2003, he even coached the quarterbacks. From 2004-2006 he was also the Varsity Offensive Coordinator and the Offensive Line coach. Each of those seasons resulted in playoff appearances, the first since the mid-90s. Prior to coaching, Nesmith played fullback, linebacker and cornerback at Seneca Valley.

Currently, Coach Nesmith is a Special Education Para Educator at Paint Branch.



Donyell Blackwell, Varsity Defensive Line Coach

Coach Blackwell came to Paint Branch from Blake High School six years ago.  He played right tackle for Carver High School in Baltimore City and at Bowie State University.

Currently Coach Blackwell teaches physical education at Banneker Middle School.



SteeleDan Steel, Varsity Inside Linebackers and Special Teams Coach

Coach Steel played inside linebacker and guard for Watkins Mill High School and inside linebacker at Hofstra University.

Coach Steel is a strength and conditioning coach.



SmithChuck Smith, Varsity Co-Wide Receivers Coach

Coach Chuck Smith has a long history with Paint Branch High School.  He has coached for seven years, taught English for three years, and all four of his children graduated from Paint Branch and participated in the athletic program. In the late 90’s, early 2000’s he served as Vice President of the Parents’ Football Booster Club. Coach Smith and his wife Janis have one daughter and three sons.  Charles T. Smith III graduated from PB in ’02 and was co-captain of the football team.  Daughter Jeannette Smith graduated from PB in ’03 and was co-captain of the girls’ soccer and lacrosse teams.  Son David Smith graduated from PB in ’09 and was co-captain of the wrestling team.  Coach Smith’s youngest son Greg graduated in ’11 and was
also co-captain of the football team.

Coach Smith played football for Plains City Junior High and The Columbus Academy (high school) in Ohio.  He played center and linebacker.  Before coaching at Paint Branch he coached football for the Colesville Jaguars and the Columbia Ravens programs.  He also coached baseball in BAA and Calverton Rec, basketball for Calverton Rec and the Sheridan School, and soccer for Calverton Rec.

He currently teaches English at Paint Branch.


1RH_5688-2748926799-HMyron Flowers, Varsity Defensive Backs & Strength and Conditioning Coach

Coach Myron Flowers joined the Paint Branch football family last season.  He is a 1992 graduate of Paint Branch where he played running back and cornerback.  He also played for North Carolina Central University and played four years in the CFL.

When he isn’t coaching, Coach Flowers is the founder and owner of 360 Fit Performance, a fitness and sports performance company.



Jason Freeman, Varsity Quarterbacks Coach

This is Coach Jason Freeman’s second year at Paint Branch.  He played Outside Linebacker at Consortium rival Springbrook.  Before joining the PB family Coach Freeman coached at Eleanor Roosevelt and Bowie State University.

When he is not coaching at Paint Branch, Coach Freeman is an Engineer.


HeckmanSam Heckman, Varsity Co-Wide Receivers Coach

This is Coach Heckman’s second year at Paint Branch.  Before coming to Paint Branch Coach Heckman coached at Bullis and Wootton High School. While attending Salisbury University he played all positions on the offensive line.

When he isn’t coaching, Coach Heckman is a Para-educator at Blake High School.



ParkerMike Parker Jr., Varsity Running Backs Coach

This is Coach Parker’s second year at Paint Branch, and is a 2005 Paint Branch graduate. Before coming to Paint Branch, Coach Parker coached spring football at Glenville State College (2009) and at Wheaton High School (2012).  He played wide receiver and returned punts and kickoffs while attending Glenville State College in Glenville, WV.

When he isn’t coaching wide receivers, Coach Parker is Detail Manager at Antwerpen Toyota in Clarksville, MD


Granados 1Gilbert Granados, Varsity Assistant OLB Coach & Video Coordinaor

This is Coach Granados’ second year at Paint Branch, where he played from 2008 to 2009.  While at Paint Branch he played Outside Linebacker and Tight End.

When he isn’t coaching the Running Backs and Outside Linebackers, Coach Granados is a Para Educator at Edison.

Brunk 1Kevin Brunk, Head JV Football Coach

Coach Kevin Brunk is the Head Junior Varsity Football Coach.  He also coaches the quarterbacks on offense and serves as the Defensive Coordinator while coaching the linebackers on defense.  He is in his seventh year at Paint Branch as a teacher and coach.

Prior to starting his coaching career, Coach Brunk attended rival Sherwood High School where he played outside linebacker (the old defensive end).  Coach Brunk teaches Paint Branch’s College/Career Readiness class.


JeffriesRon Jeffries, JV Assistant Coach

Coach Jeffries has been coaching at Paint Branch for the past five years.  Coach Jeffries is an original Panther and played running back and linebacker for Paint Branch from 1969-1971.  He is retired and does handyman work when he is not coaching.
